EMAIL SCAMS

Fraudulent messages use all kinds of arguments to deceive the recipient.

What is phishing?
Electronic mail is one of the most frequently used media for online fraud and is the main propagation route for viruses.

Fraudulent emails, also known as phishing or hoax, that attempt to get hold of personal information, are sometimes hard to identify. So, we recommend the following:
  • Do not open junk mail or spam.
  • Do not open mail from unknown origins or that is not guaranteed to come from a trusted source.
  • Never click on links in suspicious emails.
  • Never send personal data (username, password or digital signature) by email. Do not trust messages that ask for this sort of information. It is best to just delete them without even reading them.
Phishing is a deception consisting of an email that purports to be from a financial entity, that in fact will attempt to fraudulently obtain confidential information. It is advisable to ignore such messages that ask for personal data, such as passwords, account numbers etc.

Fraudulent emails often demand an immediate decision, threatening grievous consequences such as losing access to a service. They may make reference to delicate or urgent matters regarding your account, which may lead, for example, to loss of access to a service.
  • Do not believe these messages and do not give out any information.
  • We will NEVER ask for such information by email.
Fraudulent messages use all sorts of tricks to gain your confidence, for example:
  • Technical problems
  • Recent fraudulent activity and the urgent need to increase the level of security.
  • New security recommendations for fraud prevention.
  • Changes in their security policy.
  • Promotion of new products.
  • Prizes, gifts or unexpected cash payments.
Fraudulent websites are often difficult to identify as such. Even the address (URL) may be falsified.
